About The Tax Manager Role

We are TC Group, the fastest-growing top 20 accountancy firm in the UK. We’re business advisors and accountants, with over 30 years of experience we’ve honed our skills and developed our service offering to deliver a much wider range of bespoke support and advice to ambitious business owners and their businesses.

We’re looking for a Tax Manager to join our growing tax team in Northampton in a true mixed tax role spanning compliance and advisory work.

You’ll manage a diverse client portfolio, lead on tax compliance delivery, and support (and increasingly own) advisory projects across a broad range of tax matters. This is an ideal role for a hands-on manager who enjoys variety, client contact, and problem-solving — with clear scope to develop advisory exposure and progress in the team

Key responsibilities of a Tax Manager will include:

Manage a portfolio across a range of client types (e.g., owner-managed businesses, HNWIs, partnerships, trusts, corporates ). Review and oversee high-quality delivery of corporation tax and personal tax returns and computations, ensuring technical accuracy and deadlines are met. Identify risk areas, improve processes, and ensure consistent standards across the portfolio. Support and deliver advisory assignments (scope will reflect your experience), such as planning opportunities, restructuring support, transactions support, succession/wealth planning considerations, international/UK issues, trust and IHT planning and HMRC correspondence/enquiries. Spot opportunities in the client base and proactively raise them with tax team and wider team. Translate complex tax into clear, practical advice clients understand. Coach and support junior team members; review work and develop capability. Contribute to a collaborative culture and help strengthen technical and service delivery standards.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
