The Role
The successful candidate will be part of our wider Mid-Market and Not-for-Profit team. You will be responsible for managing a diverse client portfolio, encompassing the delivery of both corporate tax advisory and compliance services. There is the expectation that a proportion of the work will be focused on the Natural Capital sector, however there will also be the opportunities to assist on other advisory projects that the team are undertaking.
You do not need to have direct experience in the Natural Capital sector as this is such a new and rapidly evolving industry. The ideal candidate will need to bring a wide skill set of experience in tax advisory projects, a keen interest to learn about Natural Capital and a passion for the work that they are helping deliver.
There will be the opportunity to work with a number of the country’s leading Natural Capital businesses, including those engaged in Rewilding, Biodiversity Net Gain, Carbon sequestration, Landscape Recovery Schemes and Natural Flood Management projects. These clients share a deep passion for delivering positive impact for the environment whilst making sure that their business models are financially sound and provide their investors with a commercial return. Saffery is already established as a leading advisor to this sector and there is now a need to grow our specialist capacity to service our existing clients as well as work with new clients in this rapidly growing sector to help them realise their goals.
The successful candidate will have expertise in tax advisory work particularly tax structuring projects and will likely have worked advising businesses in a wider property sector such as real estate funds, infrastructure or landed estates. They will have experience of coordinating advice from specialists such as VAT, employment and stamp taxes and managing projects with a number of stakeholders and contributors.
Part of the role will be business development, both in terms of helping market Saffery’s services to the Natural Capital sector, as well as developing and growing the wider team to help strengthen the firm’s offering in this sector.
This is a challenging and interesting client facing role, which will include exposure to a range of clients.

- The successful delivery of tax advisory and structuring projects, including working with accounting colleagues to understand the accounting for Natural Capital which is a rapidly evolving area which Saffery as a firm are at the forefront of. Typical projects could involve advising on the best structure for a Natural Capital project considering the tax implications for a number of stakeholders with varying objectives and tax profiles;
- Advising on a range of technical areas such as the taxation of trading and investment businesses, capital allowances claims, R&D tax relief, transfer pricing, substantial shareholdings exemption, Capital Gains Tax and the deductibility of interest including the Corporate Interest Restriction, and Withholding tax, with the support of specialist colleagues where required;
- Delivery of stand-alone tax advisory projects, including structuring, acquisitions and disposals, transaction support and due diligence;
- Detailed technical research and responding to ad-hoc technical queries from clients and other teams;
- Helping to identify and deliver advisory opportunities within the allocated client portfolio;
- The successful delivery of tax compliance and tax accounting projects to clients in the Natural Capital sector, including working with the accounts team to provide the necessary corporate and deferred tax disclosure for inclusion in statutory accounts; and
- Supervising, mentoring, and reviewing the work of junior team members;

The Team
Our Corporate Tax team spans our 9 office locations and comprises 7 partners and over 100 professionals. The Corporate Tax teams deal with a large portfolio of companies operating in a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, technology, retail, recruitment, financial services, hospitality and property. These clients range from smaller owner-managed businesses to large and complex listed groups, as well as charities and not for profit organisations.
You
The role would suit a qualified individual (for example ACA/ACCA/CTA) with several years post qualification experience in corporation tax.
