Purpose Of The Role
As a Tax Trainee you will form part of a growing, successful team preparing and delivering high-quality services to clients. You will work with a broad range of clients, ranging from individuals to businesses covering several sectors. You will be helping taxpayers stay compliant with their relevant reporting obligations, assist them in managing their tax positions and mitigate their tax exposure. You’ll likely be studying for your ATT or CTA qualification / membership, which we will support you with.
We operate a hybrid working model, however, as a trainee, it’s important to be with your peers and managers as much as possible to maximise your learning and experience. As such you will likely work from a combination of your local office(s) and client premises, plus time at college as required.
We provide both technical/hard and ‘soft’ skills training through platforms such as Tolley’s, Mercia, Croner-i and LinkedIn Learning. You'll gain hands-on client experience, so in your first year especially we'll equip you with training on essential skills like making a positive first impression, mastering effective time management techniques, and enhancing your communication skills – all of which you’ll be able to put into practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
