Senior Tax Underwriter – Transactional Liability (Employee) – Hybrid Role (London)

Collaboration: Hackajob is connecting QBE Insurance with top professionals for this exciting full-time employee role.


The Opportunity

QBE is expanding its transactional liability offering and is hiring a Tax Underwriter to joined their London-based team. This role will support our growing global tax liability program, covering UK, EU, and APAC, working with major trading partners across international engagements.

Positioned to leverage existing relationships with international senior tax underwriting professionals (both in Europe and EMNA, with alignment to the underwriting program in our US hub), this role provides an opportunity to work within a collaborative and empowered environment—shaping how the program expands and delivering real impact as part of a committed team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Underwriting Execution:

    • Manage the underwriting business in line with the business plan across UK and EU territories.
    • Conduct underwriting and portfolio management activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory standards.
    • Foster commercial relationships with clients, brokers, and business partners to expand market exposure and drive performance.
    • Price and negotiate terms for existing and new business, ensuring alignment with long-term value objectives.
  • Risk & Strategic Support:

    • Contribute to risk measurement, analysis, and reporting to align with business targets.
    • Develop expertise in market dynamics and cycles to inform strategic decision-making.
    • Assess the portfolio to identify opportunities for business optimisation and growth.
  • Regulatory & Process Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to all underwriting policies, loss models, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Solvency II, GDPR, tax-sharing compliance).

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the QBE US tax underwriting team and regional stakeholders to harmonise approach, policy, and coverage across borders.

Who You Are

Technical Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Tax Underwriter (M&A tax decisions, interpretations by transaction type, structuring risks).
  • Strong grasp of legal frameworks and tax regulations impacting liability programs across jurisdictions.
  • Proficient use of risk analysis tools, pricing models, and loss projections to support commercial/portfolio strategy.
  • Ability to design programs and bespoke insurance solutions for clients in dynamic tax/transfer pricing environments.

Commercial & Leadership Qualities

  • Confident in negotiation, profit-centric decision-making, and driving value.
  • Adaptable mindset to adjust for exchange rate fluctuations, currency movements, and evolving political/policy risks (e.g., BEPS, Pillar 2).
  • Talent for collaboration in cross-border, fast-paced environments with a sense of personal accountability.
