Technician Apprenticeship - TCS

Location: TCS Oakhanger, Hampshire, GU35 9JE

Salary: £20,046.00 plus excellent benefits

Qualification: Engineering Apprentice Level 3

Training: Havant & Southdown’s College HSDC

Expected Duration: Up to 36 months

Schedule: Full-time apprenticeship programme. Daytime hours during the apprenticeship programme. Shift-based experience will be provided during training as a Junior Apprentice Technician.

Start Date: Mid/end of August 2026

As a Technician Apprentice in our Space and Air Defence Operations team, you’ll learn how to operate, configure and maintain advanced satellite ground and communication systems while working towards nationally recognised engineering qualifications. Your work will support critical communications capabilities that our customers rely on every day.

This is a three-year apprenticeship with a strong focus on electrical and electronic engineering, supported by structured on-site training, IT certifications and hands-on operational experience. You'll gain valuable technical skills, work alongside experienced colleagues and contribute to services that have a positive impact on communities, national capabilities and the future of secure communications. Our work touches lives, and this role offers headroom for people to grow while developing the skills needed to create impactful solutions.


What you’ll do as a Technician Apprentice

  • Complete a Level 3 Engineering apprenticeship with a focus on electrical and electronic engineering.
  • Undertake structured training to gain certification across operational workstations.
  • Support and administer real-time satellite operations under supervision.
  • Assist with routine maintenance, system checks, testing and fault-finding activities.
  • Support Operations Technicians with troubleshooting and equipment maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of operational and maintenance activities and comply with all Safety Risk and Compliance, HR and security requirements.

Does this sound like you?

  • GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above in Maths, English, Science and IT or equivalent qualifications.
  • Basic IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • ICT qualification or demonstrable interest in information technology.
  • Enthusiastic about learning, self-development and building a career in engineering and technology.
  • Able to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to obtain Security Clearance as required.
