Make an Impact Across Barnsley College

The Opportunity

Are you an adaptable and enthusiastic teacher looking for a role that offers variety, challenge, and the opportunity to make a real difference across an entire organisation? Barnsley College is seeking two highly motivated Teachers (Cross College Cover) to join our newly established central cover team.

This is a unique opportunity to work across a wide range of curriculum areas, supporting learners and colleagues by providing high-quality teaching cover during short-term staff absence. You'll play a key role in ensuring students continue to receive an excellent learning experience, regardless of staffing challenges.

Unlike a traditional teaching role based within a single department, this position offers the opportunity to gain experience across a broad range of curriculum areas and learner groups. You will work collaboratively with curriculum teams across the College, helping to maintain continuity of learning while developing your own skills, knowledge, and understanding of Further Education.

No two weeks will be the same. You'll work with different teams, develop new skills, and build a broad understanding of Further Education provision while helping to maintain a high-quality learner experience across the College. This role is ideal for those seeking variety in their teaching career, wishing to broaden their experience, or considering future progression within the Further Education sector.

About You

You are a flexible and proactive teacher who thrives in a varied working environment and is passionate about supporting learners to achieve their potential. You are confident adapting your teaching approach to meet the needs of different curriculum areas, learner groups, and classroom settings, while delivering high-quality teaching cover and pre-prepared learning activities that support learner engagement, attendance, and achievement.

We are less concerned about finding a specialist in a particular curriculum area and more interested in individuals who demonstrate excellent transferable teaching skills. You will be adaptable and resilient, positive and enthusiastic, with the ability to build relationships quickly and work collaboratively with curriculum teams to ensure continuity of learning and support learner intervention, catch-up, and directed study activities where required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
