Teacher for English at East Sussex Academy Hastings (Secondary)

Position Details

Hours of work: 32.5 Working pattern: Full-time Closing date: Thursday 8th October 2026, 12pm


About the Role

We are looking for an inspirational Teacher (English Specialist) to join our new school in Hastings for pupils aged 11–16.

As a Teacher at East Sussex Academy, you will be:

As our alternative provision for permanently excluded or at-risk-of-exclusion students (part of London South East Academies Trust), we provide a structured environment aimed at re-engaging students and fostering academic progress.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead outstanding English teaching for students aged 11–16 within a rapidly improving school.
  • Foster academic achievement through a research-informed, personalised, and ** Supportive** approach.
  • Contribute to collegial discussions on pedagogy and staff development initiatives.
  • Strengthen relationships with families, engaging in regular communication to ensure student progress and welfare.
  • Safeguarding compliance: Adhere to academy policies and conduct enhanced DBS checks.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Teaching qualifications (e.g., qualified teacher status, relevant postgraduate qualification, or international equivalent).
  • Demonstrated skills in student-centred learning and classroom management.
  • Familiarity with alternative provision experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • You don't need to provide a CV; applications must be completed via the provided form.
  • Strict compliance with the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018. All applicants must confirm via self-declaration they are not disqualified under relevant childcare rules.

Special Considerations

  • The role is Part of the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018. The successful candidate must submit an approved self-declaration form outlining their compliance. If application becomes necessary, a candidate found disqualified will need to apply with Ofsted for a waiver before appointment begins.
