About the Role

We are actively seeking an inspirational English Teacher to join East Sussex Academy in Newhaven, specialising in education for pupils aged 11–16. This critical role welcomes passionate candidates from:

  • Traditional mainstream (primary or secondary) educational backgrounds, or
  • Specialist education settings, provided they exhibit exceptional teaching and learning skills and a deep commitment to empower all learners.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum & Teaching

  • Deliver high-quality English tuition tailored for pupils at risk of underachievement.
  • Inspire literacy and critical thinking, integrating cross-disciplinary themes, evidence-based strategies, and innovative techniques.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders for departmental planning, ensuring adherence to OFSTED and government standards.

Engagement & Support

  • Mentor at-risk or vulnerable pupils, fostering confidence in learning and systemic resilience.
  • Foster safeguarding awareness ensuring all learners, environments, and practices remain conducive to welfare.

Academy Commitments

  • Support our growth and develop mentorship/leadership roles through a tailored Training and Professional Development (CPD) framework.
  • Engage fully in academy-wide projects, contributing to research on child-centred learning strategies.

Requirements

Must-Have Standards

✅ Qualifications:

  • A QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or NCTL (or equivalent), prioritising recent graduates and specialists.
  • A Desire Degree (or equivalent) in English, Education, or a related discipline. ✅ Experience:
  • Adaptable to diversified classrooms, extensive prior experience preferred but flexibility to thrive in this specialized environment welcomed.
  • Strong understanding of secondary level aged-pupils. ✅ Attitude & Skillset:
  • Adaptability, enthusiasm, and passion for transforming educational trajectories for all abilities.
  • Collaborative mindset with a growth mindset towards professional development and innovation.
  • Heightened sensitivity towards safeguarding considerations, adherence to all child protection policy frameworks.
