About The Role

This is an outstanding opportunity for a dedicated Teacher of English to join a forward-thinking secondary school environment on a full-time, permanent basis starting in September. The successful educator will be responsible for delivering high-quality, creative lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, helping students decode complex texts and refine their written expression. Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
  • Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness for one).
  • Curriculum Knowledge: A comprehensive, up-to-date understanding of the UK National Curriculum for English at Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.

  • Literacy Engagement: An innate ability to hook reluctant readers and make historical literary texts relevant to modern adolescents.
  • Formative Assessment: Skill in using real-time, formative assessment strategies (such as targeted questioning) to gauge and adjust lesson pacing.
  • Technological Literacy: Proficiency in integrating modern educational technologies, interactive whiteboards, and digital learning platforms into daily lessons.
  • Empathy and Pastoral Care: Strong interpersonal skills rooted in empathy, allowing the educator to build genuine, trusting relationships with students from all backgrounds.
  • Time Management: Exceptional organisational skills to effectively balance lesson planning, marking, and administrative duties without compromising teaching quality.
  • Analytical Thinking: The capacity to break down complex text structures and poetic devices into simple, digestible concepts for learners.

Core Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan, prepare, and execute high-quality, engaging English Language and Literature lessons that align with the national curriculum.
  • Student Assessment: Routinely mark, assess, and record pupils’ work, providing constructive feedback that guides their individual progress.
  • Differentiated Learning: Adapt teaching materials and strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles, supporting both high-achieving pupils and those with additional needs.
  • Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive, structured learning environment that encourages mutual respect and focused academic study.
  • Exam Preparation: Guide Key Stage 4 students through rigorous preparation for their GCSE examinations, utilising targeted interventions where necessary.
  • Data Tracking: Monitor and analyse student performance data to identify learning gaps and implement proactive support plans.
