Teacher of Personal Development
About the role: Teacher of Personal Development
We are seeking committed and reflective professionals to deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment within the Personal Development curriculum. This role is central to ensuring learners experience a structured, engaging, and impactful programme that supports their academic progress, personal growth, and readiness for further study, employment, and life beyond education.
Personal Development is positioned as a fully taught and assessed element of the study programme, delivered with the same expectations, rigor, and professional standards as all other curriculum areas. The role is fully embedded within faculty teams and quality assurance processes, contributing to a coherent and consistent learner experience.
Teachers of Personal Development will play an important role in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, working collaboratively with curriculum colleagues, tutors, and support services to ensure learners are well supported and appropriately challenged throughout their journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and assess an engaging Personal Development curriculum in line with agreed quality standards, ensuring consistency and learner engagement.
- Monitor learner progress, attendance, and development, contributing to timely intervention and positive outcomes.
- Work as part of faculty teams, aligning delivery with curriculum planning, timetabling, and quality assurance processes.
- Maintain high professional standards, including safeguarding responsibilities and appropriate learner-teacher boundaries, while contributing to curriculum improvement and development.
We have two permanent, part-time opportunities available at our Surrey colleges. At Farnham College the role is 22.2 hours per week (0.6 FTE) and at Merrist Wood College the role is 33 hours per week (0.89 FTE).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
