Teacher of Science
Science Specialist (Full-Time) – Doncaster Academy

About The Role
This is a full-time position starting September, designed for a passionate Science teacher ready to inspire the next generation.
As Science Department Lead (or Coordinator), you will:
- Teach Science across Key Stages 3 and 4, covering Combined Science, Separate Sciences (Biology, Chemistry & Physics), and GCSE Trilogy.
- Deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum fostering deep analytical reasoning and investigative enquiry skills.
- Motivate diverse pupils, encourage critical problem-solving, and consistently elevate academic progress.
- Collaborate in a highly unified and organised department, driving high demands for excellence in both teaching and student performance.

Key Requirements
- UK Teaching Qualification: Possesses QTS, QtLS, or an equivalent UK teaching credential.
- BackGround Checks: Must have (or agree to obtain immediately) an Enhanced DBS check with Update Service registration.
- Curriculum Expertise: Has up-to-date knowledge of core GCSE exam specifications (e.g., AQA, Edexcel combined or triple sciences) and up-to-date educational frameworks.
- Right to Work: Valid legal authorisation to work full-time in the UK.
- Lab Safety Awareness: Familiar with CLEAPSS health and safety guidelines.
Desired Skills
✔ Advanced Subject Mastery: Proven expertise in UK National Curriculum Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). ✔ **Hands-On Teaching:**Ability to execute dynamically engaging lesson content, with high practical and risk-efficient demonstrations. ✔ Adaptive Differentiation: Skill in adapting lessons for diverse learners, stretching high-achievers and scaffolding SEND/EAL pupils. ✔ Behavioual Management: Experience implementing positive, assertive reinforcement techniques for a disciplined and inclusive laboratory environment. ✔ Student Data Proficiency: Skilled in interpreting data, solving misconceptions, and implementing tailored interventions. ✔ Micro-Teaching Expertise: Effectively uses live commentary and targeted feedback to accelerate student learning. ✔ Strong Communication: Outstanding verbal and written skills for engaging students and collaborating with parents and colleagues.

Responsibilities
You’ll lead with:
- Curriculum Development & Delivery: Plan, structure and deliver engaging, high-impact STEM lessons that support all learners, from high-attainers to students needing extension support.
- Academic Accountability: Evaluate, track, and report on student progress, attainment, and effort, highlighting misconceptions and guiding intervention.
- Classroom Leadership: Set elevated benchmarks for behaviour and curriculum execution, fostering a safe, purposeful practical space for experimentation.
- Departmental Collaboration: Partner with colleagues to refine schemes of learning, modify cohesive practical resources, and drive shared department improvement.
- School-Wide Engagement: Participate in parent consultations, discipline meetings, departmental briefings, and whole-school training.
- Pastoral Leadership: Serve as Form Tutor, delivering holistic pastoral support and addressing concerns related to wellbeing and welfare.
- Targeted Intervention: Quickly identify at-risk students and implement shared academic techniques to maximise GCSE achievement.
- Compliance & Safeguarding: Fully align with academy and Trust policies, particularly health & safety checks, safeguarding, and CLEAPSS protocols.
- Analytics-Driven Teaching: Regular and constructive marking using sows learning journeys and educational insights.
