Job Title: Teacher – Primary
Reports To: Principal
About the Role
The position follows the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3. This role requires fulfilling a range of professional duties under the direction of the Principal, including teaching, assessment, staff development, safeguarding, and administrative tasks.
Professional Duties
Planning & Teaching
- 1.1 Planning and preparing lessons and courses
- 1.2 Teaching pupils based on individual needs, including assigning and marking work (both in-school and remote)
- 1.3 Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupil development, progress, and attainment
General Responsibilities
- 2.1 Supporting pupils’ well-being and overall progress
- 2.2 Providing guidance on education, careers, and social matters (including referrals to specialist services)
- 2.3 Reporting on pupils’ personal/social needs (except where this would compromise professional stance)
- 2.4 Engaging with parents
- 2.5 Collaborating with external bodies/agencies (where authorised)
- 2.6 Participating in relevant meetings

Assessment & Reporting
- Contributing to oral/written assessments and pupil reports (except where professionally sensitive)
Staff & Professional Development
- 4.1 Participating in staff development and performance reviews
- 4.2 Reflecting on and improving instructional methods
- 4.3 Advising Principal/teaching peers on curriculum, resources, and pastoral support
Safeguarding & Classroom Management
- 5.1 Maintaining discipline and upholding health/safety policies (both in-school and during school-authorised activities)
- 5.2 Attending school meetings related to curriculum, administration, or pastoral support
Public Examinations
- Assisting in exam preparation, assessment, and supervision
Management & Administration
- 7.1 Contributing to staff appointments, probation, and training
- 7.2 Coordinating/enhancing curriculum/pastoral/management functions
- Assisting with admin tasks (e.g., resource allocation, support staff supervision*)
- Participating in assemblies and pupil attendance/behaviour supervision

Hours & Working Conditions
- Full-time availability:
- 195 days per year (max. 190 classroom hours for primary teachers)
- 1,265 hours flexible work per year (excluding travel/prep/tasks off-premise)
- Weekly limits:
- Primary/Special schools: Max. 25 classroom hours in any given week
- Staff coverage policies apply in instances of teacher absence
- **Breaks:**Uninterrupted 30-minute break between 12 PM–2 PM (primary/nursery schools extend to 2:30 PM)
