Primary Teacher – Doucecroft School
Job Introduction
Are you passionate about helping young people reach their full potential? Doucecroft School*, part of Autism Anglia, is looking for a Primary Teacher to join our friendly and dedicated team.
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys encouraging learners both individually and in small groups, helping them to build confidence, develop new skills, and thrive in a safe, supportive environment.

Doucecroft School, Eight Ash Green, Colchester, CO6
Salary
Subject to experience – M1 to M6 plus SEN allowance
Working Hours
- 38.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday
- 39 weeks per year (term time only)
- 3 training days during school holidays

What The Teacher Role Involves
To meet Teachers’ Standards, which set the minimum requirements for a teacher’s conduct and practice.
- Work within Doucecroft School’s policies and guidance as an effective, motivational professional.
- Be ambitious for learners and challenge/support staff and pupils to achieve their best.
- Provide top-quality education and care for pupils with autism.
- Deliver irresistible learning to engage learners in curriculum-aligned tasks/activities.
- Develop personal and social skills to help pupils manage their everyday lives.
- Create a safe, supportive, and challenging environment for young people.
- Maintain collaboration with all school departments (e.g., multidisciplinary team).
- Take responsibility for daily classroom organisation, including:
- Managing learners, staff, and the physical classroom environment.
- Supervising lunchtimes and break times.
- Embed support aligned with the autism accreditation framework, ensuring individualised needs are met.
- Adhere to and promote safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection policies.

What We’re Looking For
- Currently holding or eligible for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Previous undergraduate degree.
- Experience or qualification in special education.
- Proven knowledge of SEN, including experience with P Levels and National Curriculum assessments.
- Relevant experience working with autism or learning disabilities in an educational setting.
- Full driving licence (essential for some aspects of the role).
