# Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant – Queenswood School
About the Role
Queenswood School in Ledbury, Herefordshire, is recruiting for a passionate and committed Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join their educational team. This is an opportunity to make a real difference by supporting children and young people aged 11–19 who may have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, including:
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Attachment disorder
- Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD)
- Pathological demand avoidance (PDA)
- Moderate learning difficulties (MLD)
- Specific learning difficulties (SpLD)
- Autistic spectrum condition (ASC)
The ideal candidate will be versatile, resilient, and adaptable, prepared to support students across all key stages. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting pupils with their work
- Supporting pupil behaviour
- Establishing positive relationships
- Acting as a role model
- Addressing individual needs with care and consistency
Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one or small-group support to students in both academic and emotional development
- Ensure clarity in instructions and adapt teaching methods to diverse learning needs
- Maintain robust safeguarding practices and act as a trusted figure for vulnerable young people
- Contribute to creating a warm, nurturing learning environment
- Support staff in maintaining classroom discipline and positive behaviour management
- Engage with families to promote collaboration in supporting pupils

Requirements
The role requires:
- A full UK driving licence (travel may be necessary off-site)
- Experience or a personal understanding of SEMH needs (preferred but not essential)
- Commitment to continuing professional development
- PDE-H (Protecting Dysfunctional & Emotionally Disturbed Learners) certification (training provided)
Essential safeguarding checks required before employment:
- Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check
- Proof of two references includingAt least one from where you’ve worked with children or vulnerable adults (interview references may be requested)
