Teaching Assistant (LSA & Midday Meal Supervisor) – Permanent
Role Overview 32.5 hours per week (8:30am–3:30pm, including 30-minute unpaid lunch break) Term-time only (39 weeks) Permanent – subject to probation
We are seeking a strong, adaptable, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to deliver high-quality support to pupils across whole classes and those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP). Additional responsibility includes Midday Meal Supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to enable all pupils to achieve their academic and social potential
- Support learning across whole classes and individual/small-group tuition
- Provide high-standard assistance in literacy, numeracy, and early reading/phonics
- Ensure pupils with language, communication, social, and cognitive challenges are included and thrive
- Maintain a nurturing, safe, and inclusive environment under Catholic ethos principles
- Collaborate in planning and implementing interventions, activities, and learning environments
- Participate in staff training, safeguarding briefings (KCSIE, safeguarding, behaviour), and first aid training
- Supervise midday meals, ensuring children eat safely and respectfully

Essential Requirements
✅ Core Skills)
- Proficiency in literacy and numeracy with a sound understanding of early phonics
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with diverse groups of children
- SEN awareness: Strong familiarity with supporting children with communication, social, cognitive, and learning challenges
- Commitment to inclusion and consistent high expectations for all
✅ Person Specification)
- Demonstrates flexibility, initiative, resilience, and a teamwork ethos
- Experience, or strong desire, to uphold a Catholic faith-based school culture
- Successful in pupil management (small groups, playground, anticipated needs)
- Ability to follow all school policies – prioritising safeguarding, behaviour, and safeguarding legislation (KCSIE)
✅ Experience/Growth Potential)
- Mainstream education experience strongly preferred
- Developed skills for interventions and cross-classroom support
- Aspiration to progress into teaching (ideal for aspiring teachers/recent graduates)
Note: Experience specifically with SEN (e.g., LSA/Cyber roles) desirable.
