Wage
- £12,480 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
- National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices

Please note that this apprenticeship is term time only and therefore the annual wage will be £9,360 P/A on a Pro Rata basis.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
To work under the direct instruction of teaching / senior staff, usually in the classroom with the teacher, to support access to learning for pupils and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.
Support for Pupils:
- Attend to the pupils’ personal needs
- Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning
- Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
- Develop a good knowledge of a pupil's individual special educational needs and implement appropriate strategies
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
- Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
- To provide pastoral support for pupils as directed by the tutor or House staff
Support for Teacher:
- Prepare the classroom as directed for lessons and clear afterwards
- Be aware of pupil problems / progress / achievements and report to the teacher as agreed
- Undertake pupil record keeping as requested
- Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate
- Gather / report information from / to parents / carers as directed
- Provide clerical / admin support for learning
- Support pupils to develop basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Support the role of the tutor, including mentoring individual or small groups of students as directed by the tutor or House staff
Support for the Curriculum:
- Support pupils to understand instructions
- Support pupils in respect of local and national learning strategies as directed by the teacher
- Support pupils in accessing and developing basic ICT skills

- To attend all department meetings and relevant staff meetings
- To attend all training courses as directed
- To participate in the School’s Performance Management Review process and make use of professional development opportunities
- To familiarise yourself with the working practices of the Department and adhere to them at all times
- To maintain confidentiality according to organisation and legal requirements
- To be aware of equal opportunities policies and principles and health and safety regulations
- The postholder will be expected to contribute to the protection of children as appropriate, in accordance with any agreed policies and/or guidelines, reporting any issues or concerns to their immediate line manager

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.
Training schedule
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

- Dundry is a small rural village on the outskirts of Bristol. Public transport is extremely limited so candidates would need a full driving licence and their own transport.
