Teaching Assistant – Hillbourne Primary School

About the Role

Hillbourne Primary School are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to join a happy and inclusive school community, working within a dedicated team committed to supporting every child to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within the school as part of a team under the general direction of the Headteacher or Inclusion Leader, supporting the overall policy of the educational programme and matters of control and discipline within the school
  • Support teachers by:
    • Working with individuals or groups of children to assist their learning and development
    • Helping with whole classes, smaller groups, or pupils with special educational needs (SEN), including those with Statements of Special Educational Needs
  • Foster supportive, caring, and secure relationships with children, promoting respect, self-esteem, and a positive, inclusive ethos
  • Contribute to discussions on evaluation, review, and planning with the teacher, Inclusion Lead, and support team
  • Maintain clear, calm, and professional communication, demonstrating sound judgement under pressure
  • Manage behaviour and individual needs fairly and consistently in line with school policies and procedures
  • Clarify instructions, encourage independent learning and behaviour, and enable learning targets to be achieved
  • Act as a committed team player, supporting children’s independence and engaging in ongoing professional development

Requirements

We are seeking a professional individual with:

  • Proven experience working with children, including those with additional or special educational needs
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding practices and confidentiality
  • Excellent communication skills to maintain a professional, fair, and consistent approach
  • The ability to establish supportive, caring, and secure relationships with children
  • Commitment to being a team player and continuing professional development
