About The BSL Teaching Assistant Role
From February onwards, this popular Redbridge based secondary school is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant to join their vibrant secondary school in Redbridge. This is an exciting opportunity to support students who are deaf or have hearing impairments, ensuring they can fully access the curriculum and thrive in their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities of the BSL Teaching Assistant
- Provide in-class support to students using British Sign Language.
- Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver differentiated learning activities.
- Support students' emotional, social, and academic development.
- Assist with the preparation of teaching materials to ensure accessibility.
- Work closely with the school's SENCO and other support staff to implement tailored educational plans.
- Promote an inclusive learning environment and encourage positive interactions between students.

Requirements for the BSL Teaching Assistant Position
- Proficiency in British Sign Language (minimum Level 2, Level 3 preferred).
- Experience working with children or young people, preferably within an educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting diverse learning needs.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
- Understanding of SEN practices and strategies in a school setting.
