About the Role

Job Title: Drafter – ENVR 203-51: Knowledge, Ethics and Environment

Hiring Unit: McGill Bieler School of the Environment – Macdonald Campus Course Title & Number: ENVR 203 051: Knowledge, Ethics and Environment Position Type: Sessional Position Estimated Positions Available: 1 Term Duration: 9 weeks (2026 Term A; August 31 – December 31, 2026) Total Hours per Term: 90 hours (Note: 180 hours per term is the standard limit; exceptions must be approved by the Graduate Programme Director or Academic Hiring Director.)


Position Summary

The Drafter will provide full administrative support for ENVR 203-51: Knowledge, Ethics and Environment, a course exploring cultural perspectives on the environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Grading assignments, workshop materials, and exams in collaboration with the instructor and recording results in myCourses.
  • Facilitating asynchronous discussions via MyCourses, including contributing comments/feedback on course materials or participating in syllabus development/research resource-sharing.
  • Holding regular office hours (virtual or on-campus) to assist students.

Qualifications

  • Solid foundation in, or a demonstrated readiness to study extensively:
    • Cultural anthropology, environmental history, human geography, or
    • Environmental ethics, with expertise in cognition, symbolism, knowledge systems, or environmental moral reasoning.
  • Technical proficiency:
    • Experience with virtual learning platforms (myCourses, Zoom, Microsoft Teams/WebEx).
    • Fluency in English and French to comprehensively evaluate written essays.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Eligibility for McGill employment (active student affiliation may apply if standards permitting).

Financial Considerations

  • Salary: $37.34/hour (hourly rate).
  • Full-time equivalent (students): Regular course loads valued at $500/term for high-priority administrative roles.
