Teaching Assistant – Harris Primary Academy Merton
About Us
We opened in 2014 as a local school for children aged two to eleven. We have:
- A Nursery for 60 children
- A 2 form entry school for children in Pre-School through to Year 6
- An additional resource base for 22 children diagnosed with Autism
Our belief is that children thrive when they are consistently happy, safe, and nurtured, and through expert teaching and support, all pupils can achieve high standards.
As part of the Harris Federation, we share best teaching practice with other Harris Academies, continuing to build on a proven track record in the borough—featuring two successful and oversubscribed Harris Secondary Academies, Harris Academy Merton and Harris Academy Morden.
Our aim is to ensure our pupils leave us thoroughly prepared for secondary school, feeling they have succeeded academically and socially.
We want all our children to love their experience at school, celebrated daily through kindness, care, confidence, and curiosity.
Summary
We are seeking a Teaching Assistant to support learners in accessing education by contributing to a purposeful, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
Salary: £26,136.15–£26,509.45 (38 weeks per year, 37.5 hours per week).

Main Areas of Responsibility
Your role will include assisting teachers in:
- Supervising and supporting identified pupils in 1:1, small-group, or whole-class settings
- Maintaining safety and unlocking opportunities for learning and progress
- Developing resources, schemes of work, and teaching strategies with teachers to align learning with individuals' needs
- Evaluating children’s progress through agreed assessment methods
- Providing regular, detailed feedback to teachers on achievement, progress, and evolving needs
- Leading small group sessions and targeted interventions as required
Qualifications & Experience
We welcome applications from candidates with:
- Qualification to degree level or equivalent (preferred, though not essential)
- Experience working directly with young people in an education or training environment
- Experience supporting students’ learning effectively
- Strong ability to build positive relationships with staff, students, and stakeholders
- Self-motivation and organisational skills to manage workload independently
