Company Description

At Catch22, we are proud of our reputation as a modern and progressive employer. Our 1,300 colleagues and 300 volunteers work at every stage of the social welfare cycle, supporting over 60,000 individuals from cradle to career. Our work spans education, justice and rehabilitation, children's social care, family support, social action, and getting people into work.

Catch22 College is the collective name for 9 sites we have across the country delivering academic and vocational training programmes for young people aged 16+ who, for whatever reason, are not suited to a mainstream school setting. Our Peterlee site, like our all our other School sites, provides students with a highly supportive environment where they have access too opportunities to build up their confidence and self-belief, and to gain new skills and experiences that will help them to achieve their goals in life. We exist to help our students find their future.

Job Description

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to work as part of a small team delivering tailored learning programme to a small cohort of students. You will be supporting the delivery of Maths and English, vocational programmes as well as enrichment elements to help our students prepare for independence, and work experience.

We expect every member of the team to work collaboratively and flexibly, but our Teaching Assistant will have specific accountabilities, which include:

  1. Supporting our tutor to deliver amazing teaching to our students
    • Support our Tutor to deliver English and Maths Functional Skills and vocational subjects over four teaching days.
    • Use one day to support the new Recruitment and Progression Officer to plan and deliver employability workshops, support guest speakers, and provide enrichment activities.
    • Provide support to learners on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, and all the while with empathy, respect, and patience, appreciating that our students have faced, and continue to face many challenges in their lives which can make them harder to engage.
    • Contribute to regular student reviews, using this and any other opportunity to build up our students’ self-belief and confidence, and to celebrating their successes or learn from any mistakes they may have made along the way.
    • Where necessary, supporting the tutor to address any poor behaviour in the classroom (or wider centre) in way that’s appropriate to the situation and to the learner, i.e. informed by your awareness of how best to engage that student, to de-escalate the situation, etc.
    • Sometimes provide cover for the Tutor when they are absent, and occasionally leading small group work within lessons.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
