Teaching Assistant – Primary (Term-Time Only, 27 Hours)

Grade: C / Scale Point 4 Annual Salary: £15,719 (Pay award pending) Contract: Term time only (39 weeks) Working Hours: 27 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8:15 AM – 2:09 PM, less a 30-minute unpaid break daily)


About the Role

We seek an outstanding Teaching Assistant – Primary to join our dedicated and passionate team, dedicated to delivering an exceptional teaching and learning experience. The role is based in the classroom, offering the opportunity to support both staff and children in achieving their full potential.

This position reports directly to the Class Teacher and the Head of Primary.


Key Role and Responsibilities

Our ideal candidate will ensure:

  • The curriculum is delivered effectively
  • Children are happy, engaged, and excited to learn
  • Children develop a sense of wonder about their world
  • Conduct and behaviour remain thoughtful, responsible, and considerate
  • The classroom runs smoothly and efficiently
  • Each child receives individualised support based on their needs

Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Support & Delivery
    • Collaborate with the teacher to deliver the Foundation Stage or KS1 curriculum
    • Work with small groups (including one-to-one support) under teacher guidance to plan and deliver stimulating and rigorous learning activities
    • Lead guided reading/writing groups as required

  • Child & Learning Support

    • Observe, record, and contribute to lesson planning and child progress tracking
    • Deliver indoor and outdoor curriculum activities
    • Assist with daily routines, including PE breaks, hygiene needs, and unwell children
    • In teacher’s absence, take responsibility for the class for short, defined periods
  • Classroom Management & Engagement

    • Assist in maintaining a structured, efficient and supportive classroom environment
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues at lunchtime supervision, ensuring a positive learning experience
  • Planning & Collaboration

    • Participate in daily planning, understanding learning intentions and success criteria
    • Attend parent consultation meetings alongside the class teacher (additional pay available)
    • Engage in the school’s Performance Management cycle, including INSET days
  • Safeguarding & Wider Support

    • Uphold school policies on child protection, health, safety, security, and confidentiality – escalating concerns appropriately
    • Contribute to the school’s vision, ethos, and mission
    • Undertake duties as required by the Headteacher
