Teaching Assistant

Teaching Assistant – Catch22 College (Nottingham)

About the Role

Catch22 College supports young people in gaining essential skills to progress into apprenticeships, employment, or further education.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team in Nottingham.


Key Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant, your role will include but is not limited to:

  • Assisting individuals and groups of students, ensuring they stay engaged and complete tasks set by the teacher.
  • Addressing behavioural and special educational needs (SEN) issues in collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Delivering SEN interventions.
  • Helping implement lesson plans, aims, and content alongside the teacher.
  • Providing personalised feedback to students without direct teacher reference.
  • Managing small groups on defined activities.
  • Covering an entire class during a teacher’s absence.
  • Working with challenging students as a respite strategy outside the classroom.
  • Supervising students during break/lunchtimes.
  • Liaising with parents on student progress under teacher guidance.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date learner files and records.

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential

  • Strong skills in English and Maths.
  • Knowledge of statutory health and safety, SEN, and safeguarding requirements for children.
  • Ability to work independently (with teacher support) with groups or individual students.
  • Experience working collaboratively with teachers to plan and deliver teaching activities, including those in individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Experience supporting children with:
    • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).
    • Special Educational Needs (SEN).
    • Language difficulties or complex needs.
  • Commitment to raising achievement levels among children.
  • Ability to handle emotionally demanding situations effectively.

Desirable (Bonus)

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant in alternative provision.
  • Knowledge of curriculum-specific requirements, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
  • Proven success in guiding disaffected and emotionally vulnerable students.

Additional Details

  • Working Hours: 15 per week (41 weeks term time)
  • Contract: Permanent, part-time
  • Salary: £25,500 Full Time Equivalent (£9,430.80 prorata)
  • Recruitment Process: Interviews will take place as suitable candidates are identified. Early applications are strongly encouraged.
