About the Role

Five Education is recruiting teaching assistant positions at an inclusive, welcoming special school in Shepton Mallet.

The role will involve supporting students with a range of additional needs, including (but not limited to):

  • Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Down syndrome
  • ADHD
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties

Working Hours

  • 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Full-time availability preferred, though part-time (minimum twice per week) will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Support students 1:1 and in small groups, making the curriculum accessible, engaging, and fun.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times, including during break and lunch periods.
  • Help develop students’ social skills and self-regulation.
  • Work collaboratively with:
    • Teachers
    • SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)
    • Other school staff to address individual student needs.

Requirements

Essential

  • Right to work in the UK – No sponsorship or Skilled Worker visa available.
  • Two recent references (dated within the last two years).
  • A current DBS check registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
    • Note: If you lack an Enhanced DBS Check, Five Education will assist with obtaining one. Acceptance of this requirement includes a £62.70 fee refunded after 20 days of employment.

Other Considering Factors

  • Experience with children or SEND.
  • Relevant training in SEND/education (not mandatory).

Safeguarding Commitment:

  • Five Education is committed to safeguarding children.
  • All applicants must:
    • Undergo reference checks & TRA (Trusty’s Reference Alliance) checks.
    • Have a valid DBS (voluntary or enhanced DP 2) then enrol on the DBS Update Service.
    • Participate in an interview.
