Teaching Assistant

Support for Pupils

  • Supervise and provide specialist support for pupils, particularly those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
  • Assist with the development and implementation of:
    • Individual Education/Behaviour Plans
    • Personal Care programmes
    • EHCP Targets
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, responding to their needs in line with individual requirements
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils -Encourage pupils to interact with peers and participate in teacher-led activities
  • Set challenging expectations, fostering self-esteem and independence
  • Provide pupils with feedback on their progress and achievement, under teacher guidance

Support for Teachers

  • Maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive teaching environment, working in line with lesson plans
  • Assist with the display of pupils’ work
  • Partner with teachers to:
    • Implement strategies for pupil achievement
    • Plan learning activities
  • Monitor pupil responses to learning and record progress/achievement as directed
  • Provide detailed, regular feedback on pupil achievement, progress, and behavioural issues
  • Manage classroom behaviour, resolving conflicts and incidents in line with policy while promoting self-responsibility
  • Build constructive relationships with parents/carers
  • Administer routine tests, invigilate exams, and mark pupils’ work
  • Offer clerical and administrative support, including:
    • Photocopying
    • Typing
    • Filing
    • Handling money
    • Administering coursework

Support for the Curriculum

  • Deliver structured and agreed learning activities and teaching programmes, adjusting based on pupil responses
  • Implement programmes aligned with local and national strategies such as:
    • Literacy
    • Numeracy
    • KS3
    • Early years
    • Achievement and progress tracking
  • Support the use of ICT in learning, developing pupils’ competence and independence
  • Maintain, prepare, and utilise resources and equipment required for lesson plans and activities
  • Assist pupils in the appropriate use of resources

  • Comply with policies and procedures relating to:
    • Child protection

    • Confidentiality

  • Ensure inclusivity and equal access to learning opportunities for all pupils
  • Support the school’s overall ethos, aims, and values
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals globally
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings as necessary

  • Assist with pupil supervision during:
    • Before-school hours

    • Lunchtimes
