Teaching Assistant (Temporary) – Outwood Academy Ormesby
Role Overview
Position: Teaching Assistant (Temporary) Academy: Outwood Academy Ormesby Salary: £19,285.47 to £19,591.52 per annum (Grade 3, SCP 5-6) Working Pattern: 32.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8:15am–3:15pm), term time only (plus 5 days) Start Date: September 2026 Contract Duration: 31/08/2027 (temporary)
About the Role
Are you passionate about removing learning barriers and enabling every student to reach their potential? Join Outwood Academy Ormesby as a Teaching Assistant, working collaboratively with teachers to:
- Implement tailored learning activities for individuals and small groups
- Provide academic and welfare support to students
- Manage intervention programmes, particularly for students with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and EAL (English as an Additional Language)
- Develop and deliver individual student support plans
This role spans classroom assistance, intervention support, personalised learning strategies, and pastoral care.

Responsibilities
Your key duties include:
Classroom & Teaching Support
- Implement planned learning activities under teacher supervision
- Monitor and record student progress
- Provide constructive academic and pastoral feedback
- Support the teacher with small group instruction
Student Support
- Assist with SEND and EAL strategies, including:
- Development of One Page Profiles and EHCPs
- Planning and delivering personalised interventions
- Support social and emotional well-being, including helping with dressings, hygiene, and eating (where required)
- Provide intervention support in specialist settings like the Bridge (restorative practice) or PLC (Personalised Learning Centre)
Pastoral & Extended Roles
- Accompany students on educational trips and visits (acting as escort/assisting with conduct)
- Invigilate formal examinations
- Assist in managing behavioural needs and safeguarding
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Experience working effectively with children and young people, ideally in a school or supporting environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work flexibly to meet evolving needs
- Proficiency in standard ICT packages, particularly Microsoft Office
- Commitment to confidentiality and data protection regulations
- Willingness to undergo necessary training (e.g., safeguarding, care plan requirements)
Desirable Attributes
- Experience working with children with special needs, disabilities, or challenging behaviours
- Familiarity with personalised support plans (e.g., EHCPs)
