Teaching Assistant

Teaching Assistant – Rhodes Wood Hospital School

Location: Rhodes Wood Hospital, Shepherds Way, Hatfield AL9 6NN

Join the compassionate team at Rhodes Wood Hospital School as a Teaching Assistant, dedicated to supporting young people with eating disorders in their educational journey while they receive residential care. Assist in delivering tailored treatment programmes designed to nurture each individual’s progress through an onsite school framework.

About the Role

The Teaching Assistant at Rhodes Wood Hospital will play a vital role in facilitating educational support for residents aged 8–18, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to enhance their learning, behaviour, and social development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group classroom support, aiding teachers in designing and delivering lessons through preparation of materials, engagement strategies, and assistive interventions.
  • Foster a creative, inclusive environment that encourages pupil participation, ensuring curriculum engagement aligns with each learner’s SEMH and SEN needs.
  • Adapt teaching methods flexibly to individual needs, promoting progress in educational, behavioural, and social skills.
  • Engage actively in professional development through training opportunities available within Elysium Healthcare.

Requirements & Qualities

  • Related education qualifications, or willingness to obtain if lacking.
  • Previous experience working with young people, ideally in an educational setting.
  • Strong literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
  • Personal strengths or interests that broaden curriculum opportunities.
  • Experience with young people presenting SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and/or SEN (Special Educational Needs).
  • Ability to:
    • Implement targeted interventions to sustain engagement and assist progress.
    • Empathise and form rapport effortlessly while maintaining a consistent professional presence.
    • Demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and whole-person support for diverse students.
