Teaching Assistant – Portreath Primary School
Contract Type: Fixed-term until 31 August 2027
Location: Portreath Primary School, Cornwall
Pay: • Band 2 – £25,583 (full-time equivalent) • £7,340 per annum (pro-rated)
Hours: 12.667 hours per week • Thursday & Friday • 08:40–12:55 • 11:55–15:20 (6.333 hours per session)
Start Date: September 2026

Responsibilities
(Tactical role supporting teachers, pupils and fostering inclusivity across the school.)
- Provide one-to-one or small-group support to pupils with learning and emotional needs
- Contribute to whole-class teaching activities as directed by the class teacher
- Safeguarding duties – Act with care for pupil welfare, report concerns as necessary
- Maintain behavioural discipline and upholding school routines where required
- Assist with planning and delivering creative/additional territories under staff guidance
- Aid with classroom management during transitions, assembly and breaktimes
- Support social interaction and emotional resilience through structured pastoral activities
- Implement behaviour intervention plans, including positive reinforcement techniques
- Provide ** Pastoral support** alongside the school SENCO (where applicable)
- Maintain accurate administration tasks linked to your duties
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a holistic and inclusive learning environment
Requirements (Essential/Necessary)
- Evidence of passionate encouragement and commitment to child development
- Willingness to contribute to pastoral support systems
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team to achieve shared goals
- Empathy, patience and resilience to support diverse learning needs
- Capability to manage records responsibly and confidentially within school procedures

Desirable Qualities:
- Baseline qualification (e.g. Early Years Practitioner, TA Level 2/3)
- Mathematical/Literacy GCSE Grade 4+ (or equivalent)
- Experience supporting pupils with additional needs
- Understanding/first-hand experience of Special Educational Needs & disabilities
- Safeguarding children training (preferably through Safer Governance Courses or partner organisations)
