We are delighted to be seeking to recruit a Teaching Associate to join the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies at the University of Nottingham.
The School is a leading centre for the study of modern languages and cultures, conferring first degrees (BA) and both taught and research postgraduate degrees, delivering internationally recognised research across our departments. Within the Department, the German Section provides a wide range of teaching and research expertise, across disciplines including history, literary studies, linguistics, translation studies, memory studies, visual cultures, and history of ideas across the German-speaking world.
Our School thrives through the different ideas and experiences of colleagues, who come from a mix of cultures and backgrounds. We strive to foster a welcoming, inspiring and supportive workplace. We are seeking applications from candidates whose background, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team and would especially welcome applications from members of groups who are currently underrepresented in the School, particularly Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates. We understand that having a mix of perspectives, lived experiences and approaches to teaching and research enhances our day-to-day work and enriches our School community.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
