Teaching Enhancement Quality Assurance Lead


Position Overview

  • Department: Academic
  • Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time
  • Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
  • Working Pattern: Monday to Friday (with occasional weekend working)
  • Reports To: Dean of UKMC
  • Travel Required: Yes – travel to other campuses within the UKMC Group

Job Purpose

To provide strategic leadership in teaching quality, academic standards, and quality assurance across the College. The role ensures excellence in classroom practice, drives continuous improvement in teaching and learning, and maintains full compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Teaching Quality & Academic Standards

  • Provide strategic leadership for teaching enhancement and quality assurance across all campuses.
  • Ensure academic delivery, session reporting, and classroom practice consistently meet institutional, partner, and regulatory standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement in teaching quality, student engagement, and academic outcomes.

Observation & Feedback

  • Lead and manage a structured classroom observation framework across campuses.
  • Conduct developmental observations in line with agreed schedules and compliance requirements.
  • Deliver detailed, constructive feedback to lecturers, supporting measurable improvement in teaching practice.

Mentoring & Academic Development

  • Design, implement, and oversee a structured mentoring and coaching programme.
  • Support professional development, teaching excellence, and Advance HE fellowship progression.
  • Identify development needs and contribute to targeted academic capability building.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Oversee quality assurance processes related to session reports, assessments, and teaching documentation.
  • Ensure alignment with curriculum standards, academic integrity, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OfS, awarding bodies).
  • Provide expert guidance on safeguarding, data protection, and academic compliance.

Data, Insight & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse student feedback, retention, progression, and achievement data.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching practices and quality initiatives.
  • Implement data-driven strategies to improve academic performance and student experience.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with the Dean and academic leadership teams to support strategic objectives.
  • Deliver structured CPD programmes to enhance teaching capability across departments.
  • Lead and influence academic teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Representation & External Engagement

  • Represent the College in internal and external quality reviews and audits.
  • Contribute to institutional planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure academic provision meets and exceeds partner and regulatory expectations.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • PhD in Higher Education.
  • Recognised teaching qualification appropriate to UK Higher Education.
  • Fellowship of Advance HE.
  • Significant experience within UK Higher Education (Associate Professor or Professor level).
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in teaching, learning, and academic leadership.
  • Formal training in mentoring, coaching, or educational leadership (desirable).

Experience & Knowledge

  • Proven experience teaching in UK Higher Education with strong student outcomes.
  • Experience conducting classroom observations and delivering developmental feedback.
  • Strong knowledge of UK HE regulatory frameworks (OfS, QAA, awarding bodies).
  • Experience leading mentoring, coaching, or CPD initiatives.
  • Ability to analyse student data and implement improvement strategies.

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent communication and ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to academic quality and compliance.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusivity, and professional integrity.
  • Flexibility to travel across campuses and support occasional evening/weekend activities.
