Role Purpose

The Teaching Excellence Geography Manager will continually improve the customer experience by contributing to, developing, and implementing standards and policies for proposition delivery. This will ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across Teaching operations throughout the geography, meeting the needs of internal and external stakeholders and relevant regulatory bodies, while enabling the achievement of British Council objectives.

The role provides strategic oversight and management of Teaching Standards and academic quality across the MENA geography. By developing teaching talent and strengthening the academic workforce, the post holder will drive the success of the global Teaching business through enhanced teaching performance, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Role Accountabilities

  • Play a key leadership role for Teaching Excellence and proposition delivery across all market types in the geography.

  • Work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Set and oversee the work plan for Teaching Excellence and academic quality management, ensuring high-quality, timely delivery aligned to quarterly and annual priorities.

  • Guide and support a dispersed team, including line management where applicable.

  • Actively contribute to geographic teaching strategy.

  • Input into global plans and priorities as an experienced member of the Teaching Excellence leadership community.

  • Ensure consistent implementation of Teaching Excellence projects in line with global objectives and timelines.

  • Oversee monitoring and evaluation of teaching performance, academic quality, customer satisfaction, and project delivery.

  • Be accountable for academic quality data across all countries in the geography.

  • Set and oversee the Teaching Excellence Action Plan (TEAP).

  • Coordinate Teaching Centre Performance Reviews (TCPRs).

  • Ensure effective communication and sharing of best practice across countries and with global teams.

  • Lead teacher development by embedding innovation, ELT pedagogy, and assessment best practice.

  • Set training priorities.

  • Develop learning resources.

  • Identify and nurture academic talent.

  • Promote thought leadership.

  • Ensure EDI and SEND principles are embedded across all academic work.

  • Partner with regional teams to analyze customer insights and market trends to inform the development of high-quality, commercially viable programs, products, and services.

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders, including academic and market leads, marketing, customer service, and global proposition teams, to enable effective delivery.

  • Manage budgets using corporate systems for academic quality and medium-to-large projects.

  • Conduct regular performance analysis against KPIs, applying insights to continuously improve teaching quality and overall academic performance across the region.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent by experience

Desirable:

  • Diploma in Teaching

Requirements

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience working in an English Language learning management or assessment development role.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders across an organisation to achieve objectives.
  • Strong working experience across the Middle East (MENA) region

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and experience of working with Young Learners
  • Knowledge and experience of product development and/or management.
