An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Teaching Fellows in Initial Teacher Education to join our vibrant, creative academic community in the School of Education. Each post holder will be responsible for:
- Contributing to the teaching and learning of the Primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes
- Acting as an Academic Tutor to assess and support Bath Spa Teachers (BST) in both university and on school placement.
About the Role
The role involves:
- Undertaking teaching, assessment, academic tutoring, and administrative duties associated with the delivery of the BA Primary Education (5-11) with QTS programme.
- Collaborating closely with Programme Directors and Programme Leaders to:
- Support the success of the School’s ITE Partnership Curriculum (Primary).
- Enhance the Bath Spa Teachers’ (BST) experience.
- Contribute to student recruitment.
- Assist within the mentor leadership team.
- Providing subject specialism and expertise to support trainees’ understanding of:
- Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
- Key Stage 1 (KS1)
- Key Stage 2 (KS2)
- Additional desirable expertise in:
- Primary Science
- Primary Physical Education (PE)
- Acting as an Academic Tutor to:
- Support trainees in their academic progress towards the BA Primary Education (5-11) with QTS.
- Provide professional recommendations for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

About You
We are seeking Teaching Fellows with:
- A good first degree in a relevant discipline and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Successful experience in primary teaching.
- In-depth subject knowledge in:
- Learning pedagogy
- Primary education practice
- Excellent:
- Interpersonal
- Networking
- Communication
- IT skills
- Familiarity with standards and requirements for Initial Teacher Education (ITE).
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Certification or experience in:
- Teaching Primary Science
- Teaching Primary PE
- Experience in mentoring trainees or Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with:
- Knowledge of developmental support needs
- Understanding of the student progression journey
- Background in working with either:
- Initial Teacher Education (ITE) trainees
- Higher Education (HE)
- Awareness of issues related to:
- Learning and teaching in ITE
- Higher Education (HE)
Additional Information
- Salary Scale: Grade Ac2, starting at £38,784 and progressing to £43,428 (includes potential maximum annual progression besides inflationary adjustments). Appointment defaults to the lower end of the range unless exceptional circumstances apply.
