Teaching Fellow in Roman History (Fixed-Term, 0.8FTE) – University of Warwick
About the Role

The Department of Classics and Ancient History invites applications for a Teaching Fellow (Fixed-Term) for 2 years, commencing 1 September 2026.
Primary Purpose: Teach undergraduate modules in Roman history, provide administrative and pastoral support, and contribute to departmental activities.
About You
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Teach core undergraduate modules, including:
- Roman Culture and Society (Year 1, term-long) – with study skills sessions
- The Transformation of Roman Society Under Augustus (Year 1 optional Honours module)
- A self-devised Roman History module (Year 2, in consultation with the Head of Department)
- Deliver Latin language classes (advanced) relevant to taught modules
- Mark exams and assessed work, plus provide Supervision and feedback (on essays, portfolios etc.)
- Pastoral responsibilities: Act as a personal tutor for students; maintain engagement with students 3 days/week during term
- Assist with staff meetings, Open Days, and public/school outreach programmes
- Participate in administrative tasks as directed (e.g., student progress tracking)

Qualifications & Experience
Applicants will demonstrate: Pure research specialism in Roman imperial history, with:
- A strong Latin language competence to teach from original texts
- Experience teaching undergraduates and designing introductory, intermediate, and Honours-level curricula
- Proven track record in marking assessments, supervising, and providing constructive feedback
- A welcome for ‘teaching-focused’ candidates with expansive potential in our supportive department
