Role Overview
The university is seeking an enthusiastic surgical clinician-educator for the Teaching Fellow in Surgical Simulation role within the MBBS programme.
This position is ideal for a surgical trainee or clinician aiming to consolidate teaching skills while gaining valuable educational experience. Duties include:
- Organising and delivering surgical skills courses for undergraduate medical students (approx. 300 students per year)
- Developing and implementing simulation-based teaching across surgical education
- Conducting surgical teaching sessions
- Creating surgical resources, including formative and summative assessment materials

Core Responsibilities
- Coordinate medical skills teaching for penultimate-year students
- Develop and deliver surgical simulation modules in the Transitional & Penultimate years
- Curbriculum innovation: Enhance current teaching methods, draw on educational best practices, and align surgical curriculum content with clinical skills sessions
- Design and maintain instructional materials, ensuring continuous improvement through feedback reviews in collaboration with the academic lead
- Act as the single point of contact for surgical skills teaching matters (students, administrators, examiners, departments)
- Strengthen faculty development by engaging with partner trusts, onboarding trained faculty for all skills courses
- Engage in exam blueprinting, provide examination questions where needed, and keep the learning materials updated on the virtual platform
Essential Criteria
To be considered for this role, applicants must demonstrate:
- Default qualification: Surgical trainee or equivalent who has completed Core Training and MRCS (or equivalent global certification).
- Teaching experience: Previous involvement in teaching medical students
- Enthusiasm for education: Clear passion for the development of surgical skills and assessment
