Teaching & Learning Assistant Band B – Pupil Specific (2 positions available)


About the Role

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council invites applicants to join Forest Oak School, an outstanding institution catering for pupils aged 4–18 with moderate learning difficulties, as two Band B Teaching Assistants (Pupil-Specific):

  • Position 1: Key Stage 2 (term to 31 August 2027)
  • Position 2: Key Stage 4 (term to 31 August 2028)

School: Forest Oak School

Hours: 32.5 per week, term-time only (39 weeks)

  • Monday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:20 p.m.
  • Tuesday–Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.
  • + 2 Parent Evenings annually

Salary: Band B £24,796–£25,583 pro rata (actual salary £18,671–£19,264)

Key Responsibilities

You will collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to:

  • Support quality learning, teaching, and assessment for pupils with moderate learning difficulties.
  • Partner with teaching staff to differentiate/scaffold tasks for learners working below age-related expectations.
  • Demonlate optimism, consistency, and independence in all interactions.
  • Act as first point of pastoral contact for parents in need of support.
  • Foster mutual trust and respect with both pupils and colleagues.
  • Lead intimate care plans (training provided if required).
  • Engage pupils in sensory accessibility and emotional regulation.
  • Champion literacy and numeracy development through targeted interventions.
  • Develop rapport with learners and parents.
  • Seek to challenge colleagues to achieve excellence in standards.

Essential Requirements

✔ Must hold:

  • NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification, or
  • other relevant childcare qualification.

✔ Experience working with learners—preferably those with additional needs. ✔ Proven ability to:

  • Inspire motivation through enthusiasm.
  • Interact professionally with learners, teachers, and parents. ✔ Commitment to consistent high-quality work, friendlyparent engagement, and IT proficiency.

Desirable Qualities

forteit would be advantageous to have:

  • Experience supporting:
    • Speech/language/communication needs.
    • Learners with cognitive/learning difficulties.
    • Sensory differences.
  • Understanding and practice of emotional awareness and resilience-building resources.
  • Exposure to interventions for literacy/ numeracy enhancement.
