I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You'll Be Doing
- File management and compliance — maintaining and updating all files, ensuring documents are correctly named in line with firm-wide conventions and stored in the correct folder structures. You'll also be responsible for file opening, closing and archiving procedures, ensuring compliance at all times.
- Team and event support — liaising with Practice Assistants to support client and marketing activities, including scheduling meetings and directory interviews; assisting with the organisation of internal and external events, seminars and conferences; and managing room bookings, travel arrangements, courier requests and other ad hoc tasks.
- Workload management and administration — managing priorities and workloads to ensure deadlines are consistently met, liaising with your PA and Practice Support Manager when challenges arise, and assisting with billing, expenses and team coordination.
