The Giger Team: Building the Future of Developer Sandboxes
The Giger team maintains one of Deel’s most crucial internal platforms: the developer sandbox system enabling engineers to develop, test, and deploy faster.
What We Do
- Spin up production-like sandboxes in minutes—complete with real databases, services, queues, and storage.
- Isolate environments securely across teams using Kubernetes (Deel’s largest cluster: 1000 nodes, 35,000+ pods).
- Serve 300+ sandboxes daily for 200+ product teams worldwide.
- Build control plane tooling, infrastructure primitives, and GitOps/Kubernetes-based deployments.
We specialize in platform engineering and developer experience, shaping the architectural future that Deel engineers rely on daily.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Technical Direction
- Lead a distributed team of 6-8 engineers (timezone-independent).
- Define and execute the technical roadmap for the Giger platform.
- Set architecture standards for scalability, reliability, and observability.
- Mentor team members, foster career growth, and champion engineering excellence.

Strategic Execution
- Drive innovation in turnkey sandboxes:
- Faster spin-up times (< 5 mins in ideal cases).
- Cost-optimized resource allocation (utilizing spot VMs and resource pooling).
- Self-service capabilities for richer team collaboration.
- Cell-based multi-region architecture (enabling global blended workloads).
Operation & Maintenance
- Own the entire platform pipeline—from control plane to underlying sandbox infrastructure.
- Optimize daily system cross-team support (Kubernetes, storage, CI/CD).
- Ensure high availability, security, and breakthrough performance at scale.
Organisational Collaboration
- Partner with DevOps, DBA, Security, and compliance teams.
- Drive cross-functional projects at an organizational level.
- Translate high-impact engineering decisions to stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring
Technical Expertise
- 10+ years as a software engineer with expert-level knowledge of:
- Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go/Python (preferred for platform primitives).
- 5+ years in scale infrastructure, including:
- Kubernetes ( במחישנה 50) Erkaneeels promoting tasks (e.g., namespace, Kubectl CRUD)
- Helm chart design for complex deployments.
- CI/CD GitOps pipeline management (ArgoCD, Flux, or equivalent).
- 3+ years in distributed systems leadership, mentoring 6+ engineers.
- Experience with:
- PostgreSQL/MySQL, NATS/Kafka (preferably building event-driven workflows).
- Cost optimization on Kubernetes clusters (500+ nodes).
- Operating custom Kubernetes-based apps (operators, controllers, CRDs).
- Extending Kubernetes (CNCF tools, Helm, or in-house technical primitives).
Soft Skills
- Robert exceptional cross-functional communication (technical and non-technical).
- Should be able to technically business impact architecture decisions swiftly.
- Committed to continuous learning and stem-neering culture.

- Salary range reflects gross base salary in USD (converted to local currencies).
