Role Overview

Fresha is in its next phase of global growth, and the Platform team is critical to ensuring this expansion is fast, secure, and scalable.

As the Platform Engineering Team Lead, your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving team performance to ensure predictable delivery, clear communication, and high operational standards.
  • Leveraging AI and automation to transform platform engineering—reducing toil, improving reliability, and accelerating engineering decisions.
  • Supporting scalability by:
    • Ensuring infrastructure readiness for multi-region deployments.
    • Aligning platform strategy with business growth objectives.
    • Applying AI-driven solutions where they provide operational leverage.
  • Prioritising customer impact, even when working on internal platform improvements (tangible benefits will always enhance Fresha’s customer experience).

Key Responsibilities

1. Platform & Infrastructure Readiness

  • Apply AI-assisted techniques to reduce operational toil while improving reliability and enabling smart engineering decisions.
  • Align platform strategy with business goals, ensuring technology supports scalability and growth.
  • Design and evolve infrastructure architecture for multi-region resilience.

2. Observability & Operational Excellence

  • Implement AI-enhanced detection, triage, and automation to:
    • Strengthen signal quality in monitoring.
    • Reduce manual intervention in incident response.
  • Expand monitoring, alerting, and observability across all services to:
    • Track metrics, logs, and traces.
    • Make operational data accessible and actionable (tools: Datadog, Grafana, ELK, Sentry).
  • Ensure DevOps and SRE best practices are upheld.

3. Ownership, Delivery & Cross-Team Leadership

  • Drive cross-functional initiatives involving:
    • Engineering teams
    • Security (SecOps/SRE)
    • Product (to ensure technical alignment)
  • Own platform reliability and performance, ensuring:
    • Deliver high-quality, predictable outcomes.
    • Scalibrations optimise scalability and resilience.
  • Scope, prioritise, and execute platform initiatives with:
    • Actionable KPIs.
    • Clear accountability.

4. People Leadership & Talent Growth

  • Set ambitious yet achievable goals without compromising:
    • Technical standards.
    • Team morale.
  • Ensure engineers are:
    • Clear on expectations.
    • Empowered for decision-making.
  • Drive career growth through:
    • Words of feedback & mentoring.
    • Knowledge-sharing (e.g., retrospectives).
    • Developing documentation (best practices, procedures).
  • Lead team onboarding & health mechanisms:
    • Health checks.
    • Strategy alignment.

What You Bring to the Role

Must-Haves

✅ Proven engineering leadership with experience scaling platform, infrastructure, or reliability teams. ✅ Hands-on automation/AI experience:

  • Reducing operational toil via AI/automation.
  • Best practices in incident triage and automated problem detection.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools (e.g., Claude). ✅ Strong technical foundation:
  • Cloud environments (especially AWS EKS, RDS, S3, CloudFront).
  • Distributed systems (load balancing, scaling strategies).
  • Linux/networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPNs). ✅ CI/CD & DevOps expertise:
  • Python/Go/Bash for automation and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for repeatable deployments.
  • Defence-in-depth security practices. ✅ Observability mastery:
  • Tools: Datadog, Sentry, Grafana, ELK, OpsGenie
  • Metrics, logs, traces: designing and scaling systems with clarity. ✅ Problem-solving & simplification mindset:
  • Breaking down complex systems for scalable solutions. ✅ Adaptability & accountability:

Interview Process
