Main purpose of the job:

The Team Leader is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the shift operation of a team involved in the pre-treatment process in the production of Bio Diesel. This role involves managing a team of operators, ensuring plant safety, maintaining process efficiency, and troubleshooting operational issues.

The Team Leader will work closely with other departments, such as maintenance, tank operations to optimise plant performance while adhering to environmental, health, and safety standards.

This is a shift role, following a shift pattern of 2 day shifts and 2 night shifts, followed by 6 days off.

What you will be doing:

  • Leading the shift team to drive the safe, efficient plant production, ensuring KPI targets are met.
  • Ensuring SHEQ compliance by driving high standards for housekeeping, and issues or events raised are recorded on the Argent SHE app and actioned in Ultimo.
  • Troubleshooting operational issues and resolve them promptly, coordinating with other departments as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate records of plant operations, including logs, shift reports, detailed verbal and written handovers and incident reports.
  • Providing on-the-job training to senior operators and operators.
  • Ensuring all preventative maintenance is carried out on plant equipment according to the predefined schedule and applying safe systems of work.
  • Responsible for liaising with Learning and Development and organising mandatory training for the team and self.
  • Managing the team’s sickness, holidays, appraisals and performance management. Liaise with HR when required.

  • Strong understanding of pre-treatment/chemical process operations, control systems, and troubleshooting techniques. (essential)
  • Familiarity with process equipment (pumps, compressors, reactors, heat exchangers, etc.) and their operation. (essential)
  • Experience managing the Safe System of Work (essential)
  • Understanding of SHE legislation (essential)
  • Upholds and demonstrates the Argent values.
  • Can influence individuals and teams.
  • Is collaborative and builds relationships.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Is pragmatic and solution driven.
  • Has a continuous improvement mindset

Specific experience and qualifications required:

  • Relevant certifications or technical training in process operations or safety.
  • 3-5 years of experience in chemical manufacturing or processing, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
