Job Title

Head of Chemistry & Stability – Department Manager


About the Role

Location: 39-hour workweek (4 days: 09:00–17:15, 1 day: 09:00–17:30) Key Purpose: Lead the operation and development of the Chemistry and Stability department, driving excellence in analytical testing, compliance, and team performance.

Core Responsibilities

Departmental Leadership & Operations

  • Schedule and oversee team activities, ensuring efficiency and productivity.
  • Lead primary batch audits and maintain data integrity.
  • Conduct and review client communications, meetings, and technical discussions.
  • Support resolution of quality issues, implementing corrective actions where needed.

Quality & Compliance

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and quality risk assessments.
  • Oversee CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Actions) and change controls.
  • Coordinate equipment calibration, qualification, and maintenance.
  • Author, review, and update Chemistry procedures, protocols, and reports.
  • Support self-inspections and assist in client & regulatory inspections.

Process Improvement & Training

  • Propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct departmental forecasting and budgeting.
  • Support the commercial team in client relations and objectives.
  • Act as a key member of the site leadership team.
  • Attend Quality Management Reviews (QMR).
  • Deliver chemistry training and mentor team development.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Preferred: Degree in life sciences (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a GMP/GLP-regulated environment, with a focus on Chemistry.
  • Stability storage and/or testing experience is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional understanding of GMP and related regulatory requirements.

  • Strong leadership skills, exercising sound judgement and motivating teams.
  • Exceptional report writing, organisational, and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to quality consciousness, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • A positive, methodical, tenacious, and innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Very strong technical knowledge in chemistry techniques applicable to regulated industries.
  • Deep passion for quality and customer service.
  • Excellent training & communication abilities, ensuring alignment with client requirements.
