Care Team Leader (Adults & Public Health)
1-year fixed-term contract (possibility of extension)
About the Role
The Adults & Public Health Directorate is seeking a Team Leader to develop and manage a Unit providing high-quality support to individuals with severe learning disabilities. You will oversee day-to-day operations, ensure compliance with best practice, and foster an environment where service users can achieve their full social, emotional, and developmental potential.
Key Responsibilities
Under the oversight of the Registered Manager, the Team Leader will:
- Provide staff management support, including supervision of residential support workers, care assistants, domestics, and cooks
- Oversee residential, respite, or supported living schemes, ensuring alignment with regulatory and service standards
- Coordinate with the Registered Manager on performance management, care planning, and risk assessments
- Facilitate staff development, including supervision of shift leadership and person-centred care delivery
- Develop care plans and risk assessments, adhering to Harrow Council policies
- Manage the staff rota and support operational budgeting

Core Tasks
- Create a supportive environment where service users can progress at their own pace in social skills, emotional well-being, and independence
- Provide direct day-to-day care and supervision
- Lead shifts and ensure adherence to health and safety standards
- Ensure full integration into the community for all service users
About You
This role is for experienced professionals with a strong background in adult care.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Understandings of legislation:
- Health and Social Care Act 2008
- Community Care Legislation
- Proven track record in managing diverse care staff and organising resources effectively
- Expertise in carrying out risk assessments for service, staff, and service users
- Knowledge of developmental needs of adults with severe learning disabilities, autism, or physical challenges
- Demonstrated experience with chairing and recording minutes of meetings

Minimum Work Experience
- 3 years working with adults with disabilities
- 2 years experience as a Residential Support Worker leader (RSW level) or similar supervisory role
- 2 years experience providing support to service users with needs including:
- Severe learning disabilities
- Physical disabilities
- Autism
- Challenging behaviours
Qualifications
- Minimum N.V.Q. Level 3 or 4 in Health and Social Care or recognised equivalent
