Team Leader (Convoluting)

Location: Aflex – WMFTG, Bradley Business Park, UK (On-Site) 🔗 Website | Group

About the Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Team Leader (Convoluting) to join our dynamic team, combining leadership, operational excellence, and a commitment to our core values of Safety, Customer Focus, Excellence, Collaboration, Respect, and Integrity.

  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team under tight deadlines
  • Uphold quality standards, prioritise safety culture, and ensure process efficiency
  • Bridge operational demands with cross-functional collaboration

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to staff, including training, 1-1 meetings, and appraisals
  • Foster a high-performance culture through goal-setting, performance reviews, and disciplined engagement

Operational Excellence & Safety

  • Conduct daily safety checks and weekly safe behaviour audits
  • Issue monthly safety bulletins and daily safety reminders to the team
  • Track EH&S metrics, update the team monthly, and resolve identified near-miss incidents
  • Collaborate with Department Leader to close out EHS concerns
  • IOSH Managing Safely compliance: ensure adherence to NEBOSH, COSHH, and industry standards
  • Implement 5S/6S lean manufacturing principles and support GEM (Good, Easy, Manageable) improvements

Quality & Production

  • Ensure on-time delivery meets master production schedules
  • Investigate non-conformance scenarios, conduct root cause analysis (RCCA), and implement countermeasures
  • Monitor scrap levels, down-time, and production downturns to hit KPIs
  • Review operational processes, assess ddevoiding process problems by rapidly addressing breakdowns, labour shortages, and quality issues
  • Support Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) collaborations with quality and engineering teams

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with maintenance, facilities, and logistics teams to optimise workflow
  • Facilitate shift briefings, handovers, and debrief meetings
  • Assist in performance reviews, conduct disciplinary procedures (escalating issues as needed), and manage unplanned absences
  • Participate in recruitment, training, and upskilling sessions while supporting new starters with onboarding
  • Proactively lead innovative problem-solving for operational challenges

Requirements

Essential Experience

  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, ideally a yellow/best/belt certification
  • Experience working in a NEBOSH-compliant or COSHH/IOSH environment
  • Demonstrated experience with 5S/6S implementation/organising/reotyping
  • Root cause analysis (RCCA) skills to investigate nonconformities
  • Lean manufacturing principles knowledge and ability to develop process workflows

Leadership & Management

  • Proven people management experience, including mentoring, appraisals, and disciplinaries
  • Hold or be working towards:
    • ILM Level 4 NVQ in Leadership and Management (or equivalent)
    • City & Guilds Apprentice qualification level 4+ OR time-served in related discipline
  • Pedagogical ability to provide training to operators and apprentices

Soft Skills & Attitude

  • Resilient performer who thrives in high-pressure environments
  • Strong communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Critical analytical mind with a focus on problem-solving and data-driven improvement
  • Team player who actively fosters respect, equality, and psychological safety

Certifications & Governance

  • IOSH Managing Safely certification (no exceptions)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
