Role Overview
Based in the Environment Directorate (Planning Department), this high-profile leadership position will lead the Council’s business growth and inward investment agenda. Key responsibilities will include:
- Positioning Bedford Borough as a top destination for inward investment, innovation, and business growth
- Overseeing partnerships with local, regional, and national stakeholders
- Ensuring economic opportunities translate into tangible business investment, jobs, and prosperity
- Managing a diverse portfolio, including inward investment, business support, and stakeholder relations
You’ll collaborate with investors, employers, government agencies, and regional partners to drive economic ambitions.
Responsibilities

Attract investment: Secure inward investment and help expand existing businesses.

Build strategic partnerships: Foster strong relationships with Government, public sector, education, and private businesses.

Drive growth & innovation: Champion continuous improvement and a forward-thinking approach.

High-level influence & communication: Negotiate and articulate plans effectively with decision-makers.

Technical & strategic expertise: Proven experience in economic development, inward investment, and business support.
