About the Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Team Leader to join our Environment business. Due to the rapid growth of our business in the civil nuclear and environment sector, we require more support to deliver and continue to expand our expertise.

We have a leading role in nuclear environmental strategy underpinning the future site strategy, management of environmental assessments, and end-state decision making. In the UK, we deliver a diverse range of projects for waste producers, waste management organisations and strategic authorities across all aspects of the waste lifecycle. We are delivering similarly interesting and exciting projects across the globe including projects for clients in Norway, Central & Eastern Europe and Japan.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated candidate as a technical team leader. The candidate will be expected to grow the business in these areas and further develop their team accordingly, as well as conducting technical work within their own specialism. You will join a friendly, highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary group. The vacancy provides an excellent opportunity for those wishing to develop their careers in our technically and commercially challenging business.

We are operating under flexible working arrangements, with a mixture of office-based and home working environments. The role can be based at Harwell, Cumbria, Scrabster or Birchwood and other locations will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes two key aspects – technical delivery in your specialist topic area and leadership of a team of related disciplines.

Technical Delivery Aspects

  • Environmental underpinning activities to satisfy regulatory compliance (e.g. environmental permitting, GRR, environmental management systems).
  • Developing documentation for new build GDA Environmental Submissions (demonstrating how environmental regulations and Radioactive Substances Regulation are addressed).
  • Contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments and/or consideration of conventional impacts from waste management activities.
  • Undertaking dispersion assessments for various media (air, water, soil).
  • Undertaking sustainability assessments.
  • Support to site-end state development and land quality projects, including data gathering/analysis; options assessments; technical justification.
  • Lead the delivery of high-quality competitive proposals to our clients and build client relationships.
  • Stakeholder engagement.
  • Production of concise and well-written technical reports and presentation of results to clients.

Team Leadership Aspects

  • Responsibility for team safety, well-being and career development.
  • Responsibilities for management of frameworks and/or project portfolios.
  • Project profitability and team utilisation targets.
  • Support wider business development activities and provide input on the strategic direction of the team.
  • Support the development of our team through training, knowledge dissemination and mentoring.
  • Developing an understanding of the underlying requirements of our clients, and leading client relationships.
  • Bidding for and winning work, including developing business development strategies.
  • Growing your team and developing capability.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification (or equivalent training and experience) in appropriate mathematical, physical science or engineering discipline.
  • Significant experience in a comparable consultancy or strategic nuclear environmental focussed role (individual candidates need experience of some of the technical topic areas described above, not necessarily all).
  • Experience of bid leadership and proposal preparation.
  • Ability to manage time and priorities while working on several varied projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including tailoring outputs to the requirements of different stakeholders.
