Team Leader, Production Operations Resource
Location: Burghfield, near Reading and Basingstoke (free on-site parking)
Package
£37,670 – £43,000 (based on suitability, qualifications, and experience)
Working Pattern
This role operates on a rotating shift schedule:
- 2 weeks on early shifts
- 2 weeks on late shifts
Shift Times
- Early shift: 06:00 – 14:45
- Late shift: 14:15 – 23:00

About the Role
AWE is seeking a Team Leader (Production Operations) for the Operations Group.
This position is ideal for a proven people leader with line management experience, responsible for supervising a team of up to 26 production personnel in a high-hazard environment. The successful candidate will:
- Drive performance and capability
- Collaborate with the Production Task Manager to align resources with demand
- Ensure team objectives are met safely, securely, and efficiently

✅ Proven line management experience ✅ Ability to lead, motivate, and manage diverse production teams in a safety-critical environment ✅ Strong performance management skills, including:
- Setting clear expectations and standards
- Managing underperformance, absence, and conduct
- Driving accountability and continuous improvement ✅ Excellent leadership and communication

Desirable (but not mandatory):
➡ Experience in high-hazard, manufacturing, defence, nuclear, or regulated environments ➡ Formal leadership qualification (e.g., ILM, NVQ Level 3/5) ➡ Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools (6S, visual management) ➡ Experience in workforce planning, skills matrix, training, and accreditation ➡ Ability to interpret operational data for decision-making ➡ Experience in workforce relations, incident investigation, and recruitment

Key Accountabilities
✔ Lead a team to meet safety, quality, and efficiency targets ✔ Ensure performance accountability (behaviour, attendance, conduct) ✔ Proactively manage underperformance and capability gaps ✔ Drive a high-performance culture with recognition and development
Key Responsibilities
- Set and enforce performance standards
- Monitor KPIs (safety, quality, delivery, cost)
- Develop team capability through training and mentoring
- Facilitate performance reviews (daily/weekly accountability)
- Allocate resources effectively based on operational demands
- Identify and mitigate risks (resource, capability, delivery)
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training
- Foster collaboration across teams and managers
- Promote career development and inclusive work environment
- Follow ‘See It, Own It, Solve It’ mindset
- May undertake additional duties (e.g., First Aid, Zone Control Officer) as required
