About the Role
The Team Leader (Protein Reagents) will oversee the establishment, direction, and tactical leadership of the Protein Science area, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and scientific excellence for early drug discovery projects—primarily focusing on protein reagents across multiple modalities.
Key Responsibilities
- Project delivery leadership: Accountable for Protein Reagent supply and profiling across early drug discovery projects, directing internal resources and supporting multiple initiatives.
- Team oversight: Provide scientific direction, mentoring, and performance management for team members to ensure project specification adherence.
- Experimental design and oversight: Collaborate with project counterparts to design experiments, review documentation, and present findings to internal and external customers.
- Data analysis: Conduct thorough data reviews prior to product release, ensuring robustness and compliance.
- Scientific expertise: Deliver expert-level input on experimental design and propose novel approaches to optimise strategies.
- Scientific leadership: Plan, execute, and lead standalone scientific projects and deliverables, fostering team growth and business alignment.
- Training and development: Work with the team to co-develop individual growth plans aligned with business needs.
- Representation: May represent Evotec at scientific or business conferences.
- Peer-reviewed publications: Foster scientific visibility by presenting and publishing high-quality research.

Knowledge & Experience
Technical
- Proven technical expertise in Protein Purification, with experience in:
- Designing and delivering protein reagents across target families on time, on budget, and to agreed quality criteria.
- Managing automated workflows for efficient protein reagent generation.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted partnerships with internal and external customers.
Leadership
- Track record of leading protein reagent production teams, ensuring high quality and delivery.
- Experience in mentoring and coaching scientists to drive continuous improvement.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a background in influencing stakeholders and resolving complex issues.
Research & Publications
- Ideally, possession of a Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline with industry experience (or equivalent expertise via a master’s degree and extensive industry experience).
- Preferable peer-reviewed publications in the field.
Education & Qualifications
Ideally:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., biochemistry, molecular biology, protein science) with prior industry experience.
- Alternatively, a first-class honours degree + several years’ drug discovery experience in a complementary field.
