Team Leader – Magistrates’ Court (Ipswich/Norwich)
Location: Ipswich Magistrates’ Court (IP1 2AP) or Norwich Magistrates’ Court (NR3 1UP)
Fixed-Term Contract: 12 months (role on rotational reserve list post-appointment)

You’ll lead a team of administrative professionals, ensuring high-quality justice service delivery through effective core administrative support, leasehold management, and customer-facing operations. This leadership role shapes HMCTS operations and is central to driving performance while supporting staff wellbeing, reward, and recognition.

About Your Role
This Team Leader position is founded on the Civil Service Line Management Standards, fostering:

Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership:
- Motivate and develop staff to delivery high standards in administrative roles (e.g.: diary minimis for magistrates, court rooms, education infrastructure, hosting team).
- Ensure compliance with HMCTS priorities while addressing potential challenges with a strategic, proactive approach.
- Innovate processes to enhance operational efficiency.

Essential Requirements

✅ Technical Proficiency Proficient in office systems and prepared to adapt to evolving technologies.
✅ Communication & Relationships Clear articulation of goals, team commitments, and accountability. Established relationships with internal/external partners, including the judiciary.
Employment Terms
Workplace & Schedule:
📍 Full-time/Part-time: 37 hrs/week minimum (fixed schedule: 3–5 full/treatment days; PART TIME APPLICANTS MUST INDICATE MAX DESIRED RTW). 📍 Location: Based in either Ipswich Magistrates’ Court or Norwich Magistrates’ Court with rotating cover shifts (three out of four weeks working). Saturday sessions included: 2 Saturdays/month by rota (flexible times scheduled to ensure fairness to team).
Compensation & Benefits:
💼 Starting Salary: 29,303 per annum (compliant with Civil Service minimum). 💼 Pension: £8,489 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension Scheme (26.97% contribution). 💼 Flexible benefits include:
- Generous annual leave (including public holidays),
- Season ticket/bike loans,
- Childcare vouchers,
- Family/flexible working policies (e.g., job-sharing).

🔹 Reserve List: Joining the role opens access to a reserve list for 12 months; merited candidates retained even if the role closes sooner. 🔹 Visa Restrictions: Non-sponsorship role—However, candidates with existing Skilled Worker Visas can enquire during checks.
Security clearance: Mandatory criminal record check and baseline personnel security process.
