Location: Shetland Grade: Band 7 Full-Time: 36 hours per week Salary Range: £52,845 – £61,466 per annum Additional Benefits:
- Distant Island Allowance: £2,578 per annum
- Relocation Assistance: Up to £8,000 available

About the Role
The Substance Misuse Recovery Service delivers community-based, holistic, and recovery-focused treatment to individuals experiencing harms related to drug and alcohol use across Shetland. This challenging and rewarding opportunity is ideal for a Registered General or Mental Health Nurse with strong management experience.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Leading, developing, and delivering the Substance Misuse Recovery Service
- Ensuring a human rights-based approach to improving clients’ health, psychological, social, and economic well-being
- Managing evidence-based clinical and psychological interventions
- Collaborating with local authorities, third sector organisations, and healthcare colleagues
Key Responsibilities
- Service Delivery:
- Oversee the implementation of clinical and psychological interventions rooted in evidence.
- Manage the safe and effective use of controlled drugs in line with national guidelines.
- Work across hospital and community-based primary care settings.
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Develop and manage a team, fostering people development and performance.
- Manage systems and processes, ensuring compliance with legal and statutory requirements.
- Policy & Compliance:
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of local and national policies, as well as statutory obligations regarding client care.
- Collaboration & Partnerships:
- Build strong working relationships with health, social care, and third sector partners.
- Risk & Safeguarding:
- Contribute to safeguarding practices and ensure a safe operating environment.

Requirements
- Qualification & Experience:
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) or Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with a clean professional record.
- Proven management experience, including budget responsibility, team leadership, and strategic planning.
- Demonstrable expertise in substance misuse treatment, including controlled drugs management.
- Experience working in both hospital and community settings.
- Strong knowledge of recovery-focused interventions, evidence-based practice, and psychological support frameworks.
- Policy & Legal Awareness:
- In-depth understanding of current local and national substance misuse policies.
- Familiarity with statutory obligations, including duty of care, data protection, and safeguarding.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional communication and liaison skills (both written and verbal).
- Strong collaborative mindset with ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to a client-centred, recovery-focused approach.
Additional Essential Criteria
- Ability to join or update the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to employment.
