Technician Team Leader - Permanent, Full Time

About the Role

Permanent, Full Time

Knowlton and Newman, part of the Rubix Group, deliver 24/7 engineering services, covering the repair, overhaul, installation, and maintenance of:

  • Pumps
  • Motors
  • Gearboxes
  • Compressors
  • Hydraulic equipment
  • A wide range of industrial equipment

The Team Leader Technician is an experienced, multi-skilled engineer who leads both technical work and team support in or on-site. This key role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of services while acting as the senior technical authority responsible for assigned jobs.


Key Responsibilities

Core Technical Duties

  • Install, commission, test, maintain, and repair mechanical and/or electrical systems and equipment.
  • Diagnose faults, undertake repairs, and ensure full compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Complete job documentation accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Operate machinery, tools, and test equipment safely and effectively.
  • Liaise with customers, colleagues, and management to provide updates on technical progress.

Leadership & Management Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations in the workshop or on-site, prioritising safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to less experienced technicians.
  • Monitor productivity, allocate tasks, and ensure job deadlines are met.
  • Oversee tooling, equipment, and consumables, including raising orders as needed.
  • Drive continuously improving processes, safety protocols, and customer service.
  • Assist estimating and quoting teams by advising on job durations, methods, and technical requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for both customers and management during job execution.
  • Complete all required paperwork, ensuring accurate documentation and full compliance.

Person Specification

Skills & Experience

✔ Strong technical expertise in one or more specialist engineering areas ✔ Proven experience in leading or mentoring technicians, with excellent interpersonal skills ✔ Ability to install, operate, and troubleshoot a wide range of engineering equipment ✔ Strong problem-solving mindset, suitable for complex or bespoke work ✔ Highly organised, able to manage personal workflow and coordinate team tasks ✔ Exceptional communication skills to liaise effectively with colleagues and customers

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Recognised UK apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent)
  • Advantageous: Advanced specialist training/certification (including lifting, electrical testing or confined space permitting)
  • Desirable: Supervisory or leadership training

Technical & Compliance Requirements

  • Valid UK driving licence strongly preferred

  • Lead by example in promoting a safety-first culture
  • Ensure team members adhere to company and statutory health & safety regulations
  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure correct control measures are followed
  • Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly and accurately
  • Maintain ISO-aligned quality standards in all processes and documentation
