Team Leader - Water & Drainage Management

Location: Rayleigh, Essex

Shift Pattern: 6am to 4pm

Salary: To be discussed at screening stage

Lead by example. Make a difference every day.

At FM Conway, our Team Leaders do far more than manage operations. They play a vital role in leading our teams, maintaining high standards and ensuring our drainage services keep communities safe, prevent flooding and protect the UK's essential infrastructure.

We're looking for an experienced and motivated Team Leader to join our growing Water and Drainage Management team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll lead our operational crews, support the day-to-day planning of works and help deliver a safe, efficient and high-quality service across our contracts.

No two days are the same. Whether you're leading morning briefings, supporting crews on site, carrying out quality inspections or planning the next day's workload, you'll finish each day knowing you've made a real difference to both your team and our customers.

As one of our Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate the day-to-day delivery of drainage operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with contract requirements.
  • Deliver daily team briefings, allocate work, prepare vehicles, equipment and resources, and work closely with planners to ensure crews are ready for each shift.
  • Support, coach and develop operational teams by providing on-site guidance, practical assistance and training, particularly for new starters.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, quality checks and health & safety audits, providing feedback to continuously improve performance and standards.
  • Monitor operational performance, complete relevant documentation and report any absence, vehicle damage, equipment issues or operational concerns.
  • Promote a positive safety culture by delivering toolbox talks, completing return-to-work meetings and ensuring company procedures are consistently followed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
